Connecticut Restylane and Juvederm Injection

Restylane and Juvederm Injection Overview

Deep lines, like nasolabial folds and marionette lines, don't have to be your signature facial feature anymore. When lines and wrinkles are so pronounced that they command attention of their own, it's time to consider cosmetic facial rejuvenation treatments like Restylane® or Juvederm™ at Imperial Plastic Surgery in Westport, Connecticut.

Restylane® is composed of NASHA gel, Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. Juvederm™ is Hyaluronic Acid derived from materials of bacterial origin and is FDA approved for cosmetic use. In our Westport offices, Connecticut plastic surgeon, Dr. Singer, injects Restylane® or Juvederm™ deep beneath the skin to fill in moderate to severe wrinkles, lines and folds.

The two treatments are considered similar, and they indeed share many characteristics apart from their origin. But Restylane® has recently captured media attention with an exciting report from a research team at the University of Michigan Medical School at Ann Arbor. The team of scientists discovered that the substance seems to deliver benefits beyond just filling in underneath wrinkles and supporting skin to lie flat and smooth again. By acting on collagen-producing cells called “fibroblasts,” the researchers found that Restylane® appears to encourage the body to produce and protect more of its own natural collagen.

It’s an intriguing prospect: while the gel substance provides a support structure for your skin, Restylane has the potential to improve your skin’s own youthful qualities over time. Dr. Singer and his team will be monitoring these developments closely in the years to come, as well as watching for news about other treatments such as Juvederm™. The research team at the University of Michigan focused their efforts solely on Restylane®, but it’s logical to think their findings may apply to other treatments. The possibilities are exhilarating! As you and Dr. Singer pursue the treatment plan that’s right for you, he will keep you up to date on further news.

Restylane® and Juvederm™ aren't just for women. Many men who want to reduce deep lines have found Restylane® and Juvederm™ treatments very effective. Because Restylane® and Juvederm™ provide a natual result, men have been able to enhance their appearance without looking fake or "done."

Restylane® and Juvederm™ treatments take less than one hour, and with our office conveniently located between the 15 and 95 freeways in Westport, we can fit an appointment into any busy schedule.

Results from Restylane® and Juvederm™ can be seen immediately, and treatments generally last from 6 months to 1 year. Follow up treatments can be administered as necessary, but usually patients choose to return every 6 months.

Dr. Singer uses ultra-fine needles to inject the gel. More than one injection may be required for each line, fold or wrinkle. Restylane® and Juvederm™ injections are not painful, and a topical anesthetic cream can be used pre-treatment to numb the injection site. Swelling and redness can occur, but only in rare cases.

If you're planning on having Restylane® or Juvederm™ injections before a big event, such as a wedding, reunion, or office party, Dr. Singer suggests scheduling treatment a week to 10 days before the event for optimal results.

Restylane® and Juvederm™ are also compatible with Botox® Cosmetic so you can combine treatments in our Westport offices. Dr. Singer recommends Restylane® and Juvederm™ for the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other wrinkles beneath the cheek line, and Botox® Cosmetic injections for brow lines and laugh lines around the eyes for a complete facial rejuvenation.

Restylane® and Juvederm™ are completely biocompatible with human tissue. Since both are hypoallergenic they do not require pre-treatments or allergy tests. Juvederm™ is derived from bacterial sources, and it is important during your consultation to inform Dr. Singer if you have any allergies to bacteria.

Hyaluronic Acid is found naturally in the human body so there is no risk of the body rejecting Restylane® and Juvederm™ gel injections. In fact, Hyaluronic Acid is found naturally in our skin and gives our skin its elasticity. Water molecules bind with Hyaluronic Acid, and give skin a full, plump look. As we age, our skin loses Hyaluronic Acid and with it, the skin loses its firmness creating lines and wrinkles. Restylane® and Juvederm™ treatments can be thought of as replenishers of the body's natural skin volume.
